How to Convert dynamic disk to basic disk with MiniTool Partition Wizard without damaging data?

When partitioning the disk, you may have the tendency of setting a smaller partition size so that you can create more partitions. This is easy to realize, but while using these small partitions, you may feel rather troublesome. After creating or formatting the partition, you have to select a letter from the 26 English letters to set drive letter for the partition, and then the partition can be displayed in the Windows operating system explorer. Otherwise you cannot find it. Apart from A and B taken as the letters of floppy drives, you can only create 24 usable partitions. If there is need to create more than 24 partitions, you can convert the basic disk to dynamic. After converting, the partitions will turn to dynamic volumes. You can create dynamic volume in dynamic disk and the volume number is not limited. You can create as many as 2000 dynamic volumes within the dynamic disk capacity. That is a great breakthrough of 26 partitions in basic disk. In addition, before converting basic disk to dynamic disk, you should make sure that the Windows operating system of your computer is Windows 2000 and the later editions, because dynamic disk is a new disk form after Windows 2000.

Conditions for converting dynamic disk

I have mentioned that the operating system should be Windows 2000 and later editions before we convert basic disk to dynamic disk, but how can we know what edition of our operating system is? Let me tell you a way to view the operating system edition: right click the "My Computer" button at the desktop, and then in the shortcut menu showed as the left picture, click "Properties". The "System Properties" interface will show up. In the following interface, click "General" tab, and we can see the operating system edition in the "System" area.

This interface shows the operating system is Windows Server 2003. So it supports dynamic disk. As known to all, the Windows built-in disk management tool supports converting basic disk to dynamic disk. You can relay on it to realize creating multiple volumes in dynamic disk.

Dynamic disk is not suitable for common computer users
After converting basic disk to dynamic disk with the Windows built-in disk management tool, you can create dynamic volume in dynamic disk. However, you will find that you can only create one kind of dynamic volume – simple volume, and the rest four kinds are not allowed, because creating the other four kinds of dynamic volumes needs at least two or three pieces of disks. For common computer users, there is generally only one disk in the computer. Therefore, simple volume almost is equal to partition in basic disk. If you only have one disk in your computer, there is no need to convert basic disk to dynamic disk. And the converting direction is irreversible. When you try to convert dynamic disk to basic disk with the built-in disk management tool, all data in your disk will be lost. The best way is to use a professional partition magic to convert dynamic disk to basic disk without any damage to data.
